Message from President Tod
Welcome, I joined the Rotary Club of Sharon in late 2016. I was drawn to Rotary to be able to provide service to the community in a meaningful way.
Rotary International is an organization that provides support on both a local and international level. The collective leadership and expertise of Rotary's 1.2 million members helps us tackle some of the world’s biggest challenges, locally and globally. Our members are united by common values and vision for the future as we sharpen our focus with targeted specific causes that will reach communities most in need. Rotary's areas of focus are
  • Promoting peace
  • Fighting disease
  • Providing clean water
  • Saving mothers and children
  • Supporting education
  • Growing local economies
Internationally this year The Rotary Club of Sharon has brought an exchange student from Brazil to Sharon and have sponsored an outgoing student to France. We support Razzia's Ray of Hope and we tripled our annual donation to Rotary's Polio Plus project. Immediate Past President Joe Watson is setting the ground work for a project to support a hospital in Tanzania
Our local service projects include
  • Sponsoring and volunteering at a bike rodeo, in partnership with the Sharon Police and Recreation Departments to teach our local children about bicycle safety
  • Worked with School on Wheels by providing dictionaries and filling over 100 backpacks with school supplies for homeless students.
  • Holding clothing drive for Hope Lodge.
  • We will participate with the Outreach project to package meals for food pantries.
  • We provide a quarterly donation to the Sharon/Stoughton food pantry
  • Our Hunger is Scary program collects food and personal hygiene items for the Sharon/Stoughton food pantry
  • We participate in the recreation departments Trunk or Treat
  • We distribute water at Square Jam
  • We hold an Annual Thanksgiving Dinner for Senior on the Sunday before Thanksgiving
By far our largest project is Gifts of Hope. Gifts of Hope not only provides presents and gift cards at holiday time, it also provides year round support for those in need. Whether it is help with a septic system, families need support for clothing, a need for medical equipment, Gifts of Hope is able to provide a short term grant to help.
Who is Rotary? Our Rotary Club members come from all walks of life. We have small and large business owners, lawyers, realtors, IT technicians, tutors, bankers, municipal employees, managers of non-profits, retirees, mothers, fathers, grandparents. We are your friends and neighbors.
If you are looking for a way to give back to your community or the greater world Rotary has opportunities for you.
Yours in Rotary
Tod Whiting
